Crown Perth casino: the only pokies in Western Australia

Crown Perth casino in Burswood is the only venue in Western Australia allowed to run pokies: over 2,000 electronic games, a A$10 maximum bet on the main floor and a Crown Rewards card needed for every machine. The casino is open 24/7 apart from three holiday closures.

Why Crown Perth casino is WA’s only pokies venue

Western Australia does something no other state does: it keeps every poker machine in one building. The WA government says it “remains firm on its commitment to prohibit EGMs outside of the Crown Casino Perth”, so there are no pokies in the state’s pubs, clubs or RSLs. Compare New South Wales, where about 87,000 machines sit across 2,100 venues. How pub and club pokies work in the other states is on our pokies near me page.

Crown says it runs “over 2,000 electronic games”. The WA government permits up to 2,500, which is a ceiling rather than a count of machines on the floor.

The licensee came through a rough stretch. The Perth Casino Royal Commission, in its final report of March 2022, found it was not a suitable person to hold the licence. On 8 July 2025 WA’s Racing and Gaming Minister found Crown Perth suitable again, with no punitive action. For every other venue, state by state, see the casinos in Australia guide.

What’s on the floor at Burswood

The floor splits into three areas, each with its own rules:

  • The pokies: over 2,000 electronic games, all under the A$10 bet cap on the main floor and all card-only.
  • The Multi-Game Stadium, Crown’s area for electronic table games (ETGs), where you bet on table games from your own terminal.
  • Dealer tables, plus the premium rooms: the Baccarat Room, the Pearl Room (opened late 2006) and the Riverside Room.

We couldn’t confirm a current table count, so we don’t print one. If you’re weighing Crown’s premium rooms against online VIP play, read our Crown vs online VIP comparison.

The A$10 bet cap and carded play

Two sets of rules shape a session on Crown Perth pokies. The first is a A$10 maximum bet on every electronic gaming machine on the main floor, in force since 1 July 2023. The second is mandatory carded play, which started on 1 December 2025.

Rule Crown Perth pokies (since 1 Dec 2025)
Card Updated, valid Crown Rewards membership card
Daily play Up to 12 hours
Weekly play Up to 28 hours; cycle starts 6am Monday
Breaks Compulsory every 3 hours
Loss limit Mandatory
Raising a limit Takes 7 days
Lowering a limit Immediate, unless you’ve already hit it
Tables and ETGs No card needed at present

That weekly cap is tighter than at Crown Melbourne, which allows 36 hours. Two small-print points matter too. If you lower a limit after already reaching it, the cut waits out the same 7-day cooling-off as an increase. And if you reach your current limit in the cycle when a raise would take effect, the raise is held until the next Monday at 6am.

28 hours or 48?

Crown’s main casino page still quotes a 48-hour weekly figure. Its carded-play page and the WA government both say 28 hours, which is the figure we use.

Crown Perth opening hours, ID and dress code

The casino runs 24/7 with three exceptions. On Christmas Day it closes from 3am to 10pm, and on ANZAC Day from 3am to 12pm. Good Friday is a morning closure from 3am, but Crown’s own site gives two different reopening times, so ring ahead if you plan to be there that day. In Queensland, Star Casino Gold Coast and Star Casino Brisbane also close for part of those three days. The Crown Rewards desk keeps shorter hours, 8:30am to 2:30am daily, which matters if your card needs updating before you can play.

Crown accepts these as ID at the door: a current Australian driver’s licence, a passport, a learner permit, a state Proof of Age card, a Photo Card or an Australia Post Keypass.

The dress standard is “neat casual”, with footwear at all times. Refused items include torn clothing, gym wear, swimwear, Ugg boots, Crocs, fancy dress and headgear that covers the face (religious and medical reasons excepted). A few other rules catch people out:

  • Large bags, briefcases, suitcases and laptops aren’t allowed in the casino. Lockers are available.
  • Facial recognition technology is in operation.
  • No photos or video.

Parking at Crown Perth: free and paid car parks

Three car parks cost nothing: P3, P6 and P8. P8 isn’t available on Optus Stadium event days. The paid car parks charge by when you arrive, and Crown Rewards members pay less:

Car park Weekday arrival Weekend arrival Crown Rewards members
P3, P6, P8 Free Free Free
P4 Riverside A$25 A$40 A$20 / A$25; Silver+ free
P2 Multi-Level A$30 A$45 A$25 / A$30; Silver+ free
P1 Undercroft A$40 A$60 A$30 / A$45; Gold+ free
Valet A$80 A$90 A$55 for Gold; free for Platinum, Black

A weekday arrival is Sunday 10pm to Friday 2pm; a weekend arrival is Friday 2pm to Sunday 10pm. Silver members pay A$20 / A$40 in P1. Other rates worth knowing: the Early Bird is A$8 if you enter between 8am and 9am on a weekday, seniors pay A$15 in P4 and P2 (A$20 in P1), ACROD parking is A$10 and a lost ticket costs A$50. Motorcycles park free in motorcycle bays, the paid car parks give a 15-minute grace period and credit cards attract a surcharge.

Crown Perth or online pokies from anywhere in WA

For most of Western Australia, playing a pokie means a trip to Burswood, a card, a loss limit and a queue for the Rewards desk if anything’s out of date. Online, the pokies come to you, and on SafeCasino the rules look like this:

Compared Crown Perth SafeCasino online
Where One venue in Burswood Any phone or computer in WA
Pokies Over 2,000 electronic games 4,000+ games incl. Megaways and Hold & Win, all with demo mode
Top bet A$10 on the main floor A$8 while a bonus is active
Start Card, ID, loss limit A$10 deposit in AUD
Getting there Parking from free to A$90 Nothing to park

The A$8 line is worth reading twice. While any bonus is active, SafeCasino’s maximum bet is A$8 a spin, a little under Crown’s A$10, so a punter used to Burswood stakes won’t need to change much. Bet above A$8 with a bonus live and the winnings can be removed.

What you’ll play is different, though. SafeCasino’s main providers include Pragmatic Play and BGaming, with titles such as Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza and Big Bass Bonanza 1000. SafeCasino doesn’t list Aristocrat games such as Lightning Link; our Lightning Link page lists the Hold & Win pokies that play closest. Browse the rest in the online pokies guide, or open any SafeCasino pokie in demo mode before you spend a cent.

No drive to Burswood: A$10 opens stage 1

Tick the welcome card and deposit A$10 for a 100% match plus 10 free spins. At A$20 you also get a Big Bass Bonanza 1000 bonus round.

Claim stage 1

The small first step is the smart one. A$10 opens each of the four welcome stages, and the A$10 deposit guide shows exactly what that amount gets you. SafeCasino is an offshore site, not licensed in Australia. Verify your ID straight after sign-up, and plan to cash out by e-wallet or crypto, because a Visa or Mastercard can pay in here but can’t take a payout. Ready? Create your SafeCasino account in AUD and set your budget before the first deposit, the same way Crown makes you set a loss limit.
