The Crown casino VIP room people ask about by name is the Mahogany Room; at The Star, it’s the Sovereign Room. What can actually be confirmed in September 2026 is a shorter list than most high-roller guides suggest:

The Mahogany Room is the hardest name to pin down today. In July 2022, as Crown Sydney prepared to open its gaming floor, the ABC reported that the Crystal Room would open first and the Mahogany Room later. At Crown Melbourne, Wikipedia mentions a Mahogany Room only in a 2002 context. None of the official Crown pages we checked in September 2026 confirms a current one, so treat any guide that describes its tables and limits with care, and ask the Crown Rewards desk before you plan a night around it.

The Sovereign name spans two cities. The Star Brisbane lists Oasis and Sovereign as Premium Gaming Rooms open to its premium members, and in Sydney, per Wikipedia, the Sovereign Room sits on Level 3, two floors above the main floor. Broadbeach’s Star casino has a VIP gaming section too, though we couldn’t confirm its room names on an official page. Tasmania, by contrast, has issued no high-roller casino licences. Getting in: membership, ID and dress

Crown Sydney is the strictest door in the country, because its licence makes the entire casino a restricted facility, open only to members, their guests and Crown’s guests. Membership costs nothing, but it takes a few steps:

What a night in the room costs before the first bet

Crown Sydney’s licence sets the floor for table stakes: A$30 on baccarat, A$20 on blackjack and A$25 on roulette as at 30 Nov 2023, or higher if the regulator says so, and the same minimums apply on electronic tables. Regulators are now enforcing breaks and policing comps. The NSW casino regulator’s A$10m fine on The Star Sydney in June 2026 included A$1.5m for play without the required breaks, in the worst cases more than 36 hours straight, and A$3m for converting reward points to cash for at least 1,898 patrons. In Melbourne, Crown’s table games must move to carded play by 1 Dec 2027, and its machines already cap play at 12 hours a day and 36 a week. At SkyCity Adelaide, the non-binding in-principle agreement of June 2026 includes a permanent junket ban and phasing out cash transactions over A$4,999.
