If you’re searching for Treasury Casino, its old building no longer has a gaming floor. Treasury opened in April 1995 and closed on Sunday 25 August 2024, with the farewell set for 11.59pm. Four days later, on Thursday 29 August, the first stage of The Star Brisbane opened at Queen’s Wharf, and it became the city’s only casino. The gaming floor and the Oasis and Sovereign rooms

The casino operator holds an entitlement to 2,500 gaming machines. That’s the ceiling it may run, not a count of what’s installed, and we haven’t found an official installed figure, so treat any number you see quoted with caution. The gaming floor is also smaller than the precinct suggests: Queen’s Wharf says it takes up less than 5% of the overall development.

Hours and entry at Queen’s Wharf

The casino, the car park and the membership desk keep different hours, which matters if you’re joining on the night:

You need valid photo ID to join The Star Club, and on weekdays the desk closes at midnight, so join earlier in the evening rather than after a late dinner. The Gold Coast casino keeps the same holiday closures; the Star Gold Coast guide covers its separate dress code and parking.

One change is still pending. Queensland passed laws in March 2024 for mandatory carded play, cash restrictions and pre-commitment with time limits at its casinos, but we found no official start date by September 2026. Ask at the desk what applies before you plan to play with cash.

Parking at Queen’s Wharf costs more than you’d expect

For a short visit this is the priciest of The Star’s three car parks, and it fills up: The Star says it is regularly at full capacity at peak times such as Friday and Saturday evenings.

Payment is by card only, with a 0.8% surcharge, so a three-hour visit comes to A$50.40. The lost-ticket fee is A$80, valet is A$65 a day, hotel guests pay A$45 a night, and nothing taller than 2.1 m fits. Two cheaper rates run on select days: an Early Bird of A$25 (Monday to Friday, enter 6am to 10am, leave before 7pm) and a weekend flat rate of A$25 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Compare the Gold Coast, where three hours on a Monday to Thursday cost nothing. Gold members and above park free at Queen’s Wharf, and Bronze and Silver members park free once they’ve earned 5 Tier Points.

Who runs The Star Brisbane now

The name on the door hasn’t changed, but the ownership has. The Star sold its 50% stake in the Destination Brisbane Consortium, which owns Queen’s Wharf, and the sale completed on 1 April 2026. Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium now own 50% each, and Star received A$53m plus stakes in Gold Coast hotels.

For players, day-to-day life looks the same. The venue is still Star-branded, runs on The Star Club, and names a Star company as its operator. The casino licence itself sits with Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. Queensland’s 2022 suspension order covered the Gold Coast and old Treasury licences; we found no suspension specific to the Brisbane licence. In NSW, The Star Sydney has been run by an NICC-appointed manager since its licence was suspended in 2022.

The sale came in a hard stretch for Star. Its FY26 accounts show a A$307.3m statutory net loss and A$300m of new equity from Bally’s, and chief executive Bruce Mathieson Jnr says returning to suitability in NSW and Queensland remains critical. Exiting Queen’s Wharf brought in cash without taking Star’s name off the casino.

Star Brisbane vs playing online
